Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Zishanxu, Yudu County, Jiangxi. It was named by Wang Showen n 1930.


Lithology and Thickness

Conglomerate, Sandstone, Coal, Claystone. Lower part is dominated by thick-bedded quartz conglomerate, sandstone-conglomerate and grit, intercalated with minor siltstone and shale. Middle part consists of coal-bearing formations of sandstone, siltstone and shale intercalated with carbonaceous shale and thin coal seams. Upper part is of yellow-white-purple-red shale or claystone and fine-grained siltstone intercalated with carbonaceous shale.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Yangjiayuan Fm or Yanghu Fm

Upper contact

Conformable or disconformable contact with the overlying Laohudong Fm dolomite or Huanglong Fm limestone

Regional extent

Distributed mainly in the areas such as Congyi, Yudu, Anfu and Leping of Jiangxi.

Fossils

Containing 3 fossil assemblages ascending: the Plant Sphenophyllum tenerrimum-Cardiopteridium spetsbergense and Neuropteris gigantea-Mariopteris acuta assemblages as well as the Brachiopod and Ammonoid Choristites-Branneroceras assemblage.
